Peugeot's EX1 electric concept car has added to its list of record-breaking feats - by recording the fastest-ever electric lap of the 13-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit.
In the hands of Stéphane Caillet, driver and tuner-technician from Peugeot's Research & Development Centre, EX1 lapped the Nordschleife in 9min 1.338sec, an average speed of 1382.324km/h (85.951mph). It comfortably beat the existing record of 9min 51.45sec set by a modified Mini E in April 2010, despite running in unfavourable weather conditions. The record was formally recognised by WIGE Performance, the official time-keeping body for the Nordschleife.
EX1 made its debut at the Paris show in 2010. It is powered by two electric motors, giving a total of 250kW (340bhp).
Last year EX1 broke six acceleration records for electric cars at the Montlhery track in France.
