Max Mosley is to be chairman of a new global car safety organization, Global NCAP.

The 71-year-old former FIA president and EuroNCAP chairman will be joined in the new organization by trustees with experience of new car safety assessment programmes around the world, including:

  • Claes Tingvall, former chairman of EuroNCAP
  • Guido Andriaenssens of International Consumer Research and Testing
  • Lauchlan McIntosh, chairman of Australasian NCAP
  • David Ward of the FIA Foundation

The goal of Global NCAP (GNCAP) is to provide independent information about vehicle safety to consumers worldwide. It will support the development of new car assessment programmes in areas where these do not yet exist, concentrating in particular on the growing car markets in rapidly growing economies such as India and China.

GNCAP will provide technical support and quality assurance, promote cooperation between NCAPs and carry out safety research. GNCAP also intends to establish a global awards scheme which will recognize achievement in vehicle safety, safety-related technology and products.

GNCAP will support the work of Latin NCAP and will establish cooperation with NCAPs around the world.

The organization receives funding from the FIA Foundation.
